Mixing AC & DC loads

Products • 17.06 2020

Watch our on-demand webinar on how to power an infrastructure mixing AC & DC loads.

The context

With the arrival of DC-powered IT loads, supported by initiatives such as the Open Compute Project, the management of electrical infrastructure is becoming more complex than ever. How to intelligently combine AC and DC loads for the present and the future?

The cloud is becoming a huge market, with many companies moving their IT applications to a public or private cloud. Large companies involved in this transition, be they end-users or manufacturers, together create new standards for IT hardware like the OCP (Open Compute Project). And because IT components natively need DC power, OCP decided to use only DC-powered IT loads.

And this new trend, with OCP and other initiatives, has a major impact on many companies in the data center market, but not only. IT is used by companies in the telecommunications, railways, airports, logistics, manufacturing and many other sectors.

In addition, many other loads also require DC power supply, such as transmission equipment used by telecom companies for instance. In this context, power infrastructure managers have now to deal with a combination of AC and DC loads. While it was fairly easy to design the right ratio of inverters, rectifiers and UPS to power and secure these loads, it is now almost impossible to imagine the proper mixture for the current requirements and those of the coming years.

Why look at it?

To solve this problem, CE+T Power has designed an innovative solution based on a single power converter. This converter provides a fixed output power, for both AC and DC loads, regardless of the ratio between the two. This makes it the ideal solution for infrastructure with both types of loads.

In this webinar, we will introduce you to our solution, but also two concrete use cases in which the mixing of AC and DC loads was an issue and the way we solved it. With the new DC loads appearing, we will all be concerned by this issue, now or soon.
